If your laptop runs Windows 11 or has an Apple Silicon chip and 16 GB of memory, CLO will launch. Whether it feels smooth while you simulate a full garment depends mostly on your graphics card and your RAM.
Here is how to check your laptop in about five minutes, what each spec changes in your workflow, and what to adjust if your machine sits close to the minimum.
How Do You Check If Your Laptop Meets CLO Requirements?
Run through this list first:
- Operating system: Windows 11 64-bit, or macOS on an Apple Silicon Mac.
- Memory: 16 GB or more.
- Storage: an SSD with at least 10 GB free.
- Display: 1920×1080 or higher.
- Graphics: Nvidia is highly recommended (more on this below).
- Mouse: a 3-button mouse.
- Internet: a connection is required.
If every item checks out, your laptop meets the minimum. The next sections show where the recommended specs make a difference.
What Are the CLO System Requirements for Windows?
| Category | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 11 64-bit (24H2) | Windows 11 64-bit (25H2) |
| Processor | AMD Ryzen 3000 series or Intel 8th-Gen | AMD Ryzen 9000 series or higher, or Intel Core i9 14th-Gen or higher |
| Memory | 16 GB | 64 GB |
| Graphics card | AMD, Intel, or Nvidia GPU supporting OpenGL 1.6 or higher | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4000 series, or NVIDIA RTX A, RTX Ada, RTX Pro Blackwell series |
| Storage | SSD with 10 GB free | SSD with 20 GB free |
| Display | 1920×1080 (FHD) | 2560×1440 (QHD) or 3840×2160 (4K) |
A few details that affect your buying and setup decisions:
- Windows 10 is not on the list. Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025, and we recommend Windows 11 for any new setup.
- V-Ray rendering needs AVX2. CLO’s built-in V-Ray renderer does not run on older processors such as Intel 3rd Gen or earlier.
- 16 GB is the baseline, not the comfort zone. Heavy garments, animations, and high-quality renders need 64 GB or more for stable performance.
What Do You Need to Run CLO on a Mac?
| Category | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Mac model | Apple Silicon Mac: M1 | Apple Silicon Mac: M2, M3, M4, M5 |
| macOS | macOS Sonoma 14 | macOS Sequoia 15 or Tahoe 26 |
| Memory | 16 GB | 64 GB |
| Storage | SSD with 10 GB free | SSD with 20 GB free |
| Display | 1920×1080 (FHD) | Retina 4K, Retina 5K supported |
Apple Silicon Macs support GPU acceleration in two places:
- V-Ray rendering: GPU rendering through Metal is supported starting with CLO 2025.0.
- Simulation: GPU simulation is supported starting with CLO 2026.1.
Why Does Your Graphics Card Matter Most for 3D Sampling?
Simulation and rendering are the two tasks you repeat most while sampling, and both lean on your GPU.
- CUDA drives acceleration. CLO uses Nvidia CUDA for GPU acceleration. With integrated Intel or AMD graphics, simulation and rendering do not get hardware acceleration.
- VRAM sets your ceiling. High-quality V-Ray rendering and complex simulations need a GPU with at least 12 GB of VRAM. 4 GB is the minimum for basic use.
- Some integrated GPUs may not launch CLO. CLO requires OpenGL 1.6 or higher. Certain integrated mobile GPUs without full OpenGL support can prevent the software from starting.
If you are choosing a laptop, look for a model with a dedicated Nvidia GPU. Check its VRAM before you buy.
How Do You Make Sure CLO Uses Your Dedicated GPU?
Many laptops carry two GPUs: an integrated one built into the processor and an Nvidia one. If CLO shows an OpenGL warning or the textures look wrong, CLO is often running on the wrong one. Work through these fixes:
- Switch to the Nvidia GPU. Open the Nvidia Control Panel, select High-performance Nvidia processor, and click Apply.
- Update your graphics driver. Find your GPU model name in the Performance tab of Windows Device Manager. Download the latest driver from the manufacturer’s website and install it with administrator privileges. Restart if prompted.
- Match the driver to your computer type. Drivers for laptops, desktops, and workstations are different, even when the GPU model name looks the same.
- Connect your monitor to the external graphics card (desktop users). If the monitor cable plugs into the processor’s built-in GPU, CLO mainly uses that GPU. Save your work, shut down, and move all monitor cables to the external graphics card.
- Verify GPU usage. On Windows, open Task Manager and select GPU in the Performance tab. On Mac, use Activity Monitor.
Two habits help long term:
- Update your graphics driver at least once every 6 months. Windows Update installs drivers automatically, but the manufacturer’s website has a newer version.
- On Mac, the graphics driver ships with macOS, so updating macOS updates the driver.
How Can You Speed Up CLO on a Laptop Near the Minimum?
Open Setting > User Settings > Graphic Options and adjust these options:
- Antialiasing: A higher number gives smoother outlines and slower rendering. Lower it if the 3D Window feels sluggish.
- Use VBOs: Turn this on to improve rendering speed.
- Normal Blending: This controls how normal maps blend in the 3D Window and UV Editor. UDN reduces normal map detail slightly and uses a lighter calculation that suits low-end platforms.
- Reoriented is the most accurate and the slowest.
- Image Resolution Setting: This sets the maximum image resolution used for rendering. Images above the limit are downscaled only while rendering. A higher limit needs more memory.

What Setups Does CLO Not Support?
Check this list before you install:
- Windows 10 and 32-bit operating systems
- iOS, Android, Linux, ChromeOS, and Windows Mobile
- Boot Camp and desktop virtualization apps such as Parallels
- Garment pattern digitizers
- Virtual server environments (VM, VDI, cloud): CLO can run there, but the CLO team does not provide official technical support
For tablets, Wacom products are officially tested and supported. Third-party tablets may run into compatibility issues. CLO installers come only from the official CLO website as .exe or .dmg files.
Ready to Test Your Laptop?
Match your specs against the tables above, fix your GPU settings if needed, and run a first simulation on your own machine. You can test CLO on your laptop with a free trial before you commit to any hardware upgrade.
