In CLO, AI works next to your 3D garment, not in place of it. You still build the pattern, sew, and simulate yourself. AI helps with the steps around that work: concept images, avatar poses, and presentation images.
Here is where each AI feature sits in your workflow, how to switch them on, and what to check before you share the results.
Where Does AI Fit in a 3D Apparel Workflow?
| Workflow stage | CLO AI feature | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Concepting | AI Image Generator: Generate and Edit | Generates garment images from a prompt, or customizes an image you upload |
| Posing your avatar | AI Pose Generator (Beta) | Creates an avatar pose from keywords or an image |
| Presenting your garment | AI Render | Composites an AI-created or uploaded face, and a background, onto your rendered garment |
| Presenting your garment | AI Image Generator: Try On and Flat Lay | Creates a virtual try on image or a flat lay image from your uploads |
AI Studio also lists AI Texture Generator and AI Graphic Generator. Each has its own Help Center article.
How Do You Turn On AI Features in CLO?
AI features are available in CLO 2025.1 and later, and you activate them from your CLO account page. All AI features in CLO 2025.0 and older versions were discontinued from early September 2025, so update to the latest version if you still use an older one.
- Sign in to the CLO web and open your account page, then go to the AI Studio Plug-in settings page. You can also click Go to CLO Admin in the guide window that appears when you hover over a deactivated AI feature in CLO.
- If this is your first time, check the box to agree to the AI Terms of Use and click Continue. You only agree once.
- Click On for each AI feature you want. Your settings save right away.
- Restart CLO and sign in. The features activate as you set them, and you can turn them Off at any time.
To open AI Studio, click the AI Studio button in the top right corner of CLO and pick a feature.
How Can You Generate Concept Images With AI Image Generator?
Use Generate and Edit when you want to explore an idea before you build it in 3D.
- Enter a prompt to generate an image in your desired style.
- Or upload your own image and enter a prompt to customize it.
Hover over a result image to download it or use it as an input image for more edits. You can keep refining the same image this way.
How Do You Create Try On and Flat Lay Images?
AI Image Generator also turns your own images into presentation images.
- Try On
Upload the garment image and the model image. - Click Generate.
CLO generates a realistic virtual try on image automatically.
- Flat Lay
Upload a photo of a model wearing the garment. - Click Generate.
CLO generates a flat lay image of the garment automatically.
How Does AI Pose Generator Speed Up Posing?
AI Pose Generator creates an avatar pose from a text prompt or a reference image. It is a Beta service and may be suspended.
- Click Avatar > AI Pose Generator in the top menu.
- Select the gender and enter a text prompt, or click Upload to load a pose image. For the best quality, use a full-body image from head to toe.
- Click Generate. It may take a while when many users are generating at the same time.
- Click Save to save the pose as a .pos file.
Prompt tips:
- List the words you want instead of writing long sentences.
- Use the Keyword Suggestions that appear as you type.
- Click Random for sample prompts.
- Click Maintain Prompt to update your prompt while keeping the current result as much as possible. The same prompt creates a new image each time.
How Do You Use AI Render to Present Your Garment?
AI Render takes a rendered garment and composites a face and a background onto it, preserving your original garment. It is also a Beta service and may be suspended.
Run Final Render first. If you open AI Render right after a Final Render, the render loads automatically as the Target Image, which gives a more accurate analysis and a higher-quality result.
Compose a Face
- Click the Face tab.
- Enter a text prompt (select gender, age, and ethnicity first) or upload a face image.
- Check the Target Image. To upload your own render, use a sharp, high-resolution image (2160 to 4320 pixels recommended) with good contrast between the object and the background and consistent lighting.
- Click Generate.
A face photo you upload should meet these guidelines:
A close-up of the front of the face, with nothing covered by hair or shadows
A natural expression, no accessories covering the face, and no visible teeth
Resolution of 1080 pixels or higher
Even lighting, with no strong light and no mirrors in the background
In face prompts, you can add weight to a word with parentheses. (word) counts 1.1 times and ((word)) counts 1.21 times.
Compose a Background
- Click the Background tab.
- Enter a text prompt or upload a background image. Keyword suggestions appear as you type.
- Click Generate.
An uploaded background should be 1024 pixels or higher, match the tone and mood of the image, and avoid busy or cluttered scenes that pull attention from the garment.
If you finish one tab first, the result carries over as the Target Image when you switch to the other. You can swap a face and keep the background, or the reverse.
Refine the Result
Use the Hair, Hands, and Garment Details buttons next to the output image to make the composite look more natural.
What Should You Check Before Sharing AI Results?
- Compare the garment to your 3D garment and Final Render. In AI Render, Garment Details refinement makes the garment look more realistic, but patterns on the garment may become slightly distorted.
- Save images you want to keep. AI Render records images and prompts in History, where you can select any image and save it as a file. History is cleared when you close CLO.
- Expect Beta changes. AI Render and AI Pose Generator may be suspended to improve the service. If a feature is missing, check that it is turned on in your AI Studio Plug-in settings.
Where Should You Start?
Turn on AI features in your account settings, generate a concept image or a pose, then run a Final Render and open AI Render. You can try all of this with a free trial of CLO.
