Digital Solutions: The Fabricant Founder Kerry Murphy Gives Insight On the Renowned Digital Fashion House and the State of the Industry

The need for digital solutions has accelerated in recent months given the current global crisis, but one visionary company had this foresight back in 2018. The Fabricant is the world’s first digital-only fashion house who operates at the intersection of fashion and technology. They fabricate digital couture and fashion experiences wasting nothing but data, and only limited by their imagination. The Amsterdam-based company has a mission of showing the world that clothing does not need to be physical to exist. This was even proven through the creation of ITHK’s digital collection that sold out instantly without buyers seeing or trying on the physical alternative, and the one-of-a-kind digital dress designed by Johanna Jaskowska that sold for $9,500. Through 3D narratives from concept to implementation, interactive brand experiences, and the creation of digital garments that can be used and traded in virtual realities, they provide brands with digital alternatives to nearly every step of the design process. We caught up with the founder, Kerry Murphy, to discuss his original vision for The Fabricant, how he’s been able to use CLO as a solution, and how he thinks digital fashion will continue to evolve: What drew you to founding a digital fashion…

Meshed Thoughts: How INDG Helps Fashion Brands Take the First Step Toward Going Digital

It can sometimes be quite the challenge for brands to start their transition toward digitization. Even with knowing the value in doing so, for many, there is a limited capacity to make this possible. INDG, a company that develops technology for digital product experiences, has made this a more feasible concept for brands. Their goal is to make “every product playable,” by combining the science of technology with the artistry of computer-generated content. From configurators to virtual stores, the company helps brands digitize their entire product portfolios and drive marketing content directly from it. Whether it is creating virtual samples at high speed, or interactive consumer-facing photorealistic content for a marketing initiative, you need deep expertise in CGI, automation, software development and, of course, the ins and outs of fashion to do this all successfully. This is a rare combination that INDG possesses and has managed to effectively utilize in helping their clients make this transition. The benefits of CGI have long been recognized by a number of different industries, but for fashion, it has always been a challenge due to many reasons, but mainly because of the nature of the products and the need for a certain elegance in…

La tecnocreativa is now the first School in Spain to Teach CLO and Marvelous Designer

When thinking about one’s professional future, it is essential to choose quality training that brings you closer to your goals. If you are based in Spain and these goals are aligned with fashion and design, the next step is as simple as enrolling in La Tecnocreativa, the innovative fashion and design school founded by Rocío Ortiz de Bethencourt and Isabel Goiri, as they will now be offering technological courses in CLO and Marvelous Designer. The philosophy of the institution is ‘technocreativity’ which combines technology, creativity, and digitization applied to the social sciences. “We prepare students for positions very specific in the chain of value of a fashion company. What we would call ‘the new trades,” says Rocío Ortiz de Bethencourt who has been dedicated to teaching for 30 years and has seen how training in those techniques has been neglected by the delocalization of production. “Those who love fashion succeed in doing any of our courses,” explains the school founder. Its wide training offerings combine technical courses like embroidery, clothing, patternmaking, and modeling to advanced technological courses like CLO and costume design for animation with Marvelous Designer. The courses currently being offered to anyone who is interested are basic level…
